Let’s face it: no matter how many times
you’ve done it, no matter how much you’ve planned, getting permits approved on ADUs never goes quite as expected. ADUs have been a smart solution to our housing crisis while also giving homeowners an opportunity to increase property value and earn some extra return on their investment. But that smart solution can suddenly seem less smart when lengthy and costly permitting drags on.
That’s why we are encouraged to see the growing popularity of pre-approved ADU permits. Citrus Valley Association of REALTORS® has been working with
surrounding cities to encourage cities to adopt pre-approved plans. We’ve seen some cities offer up to five designs that homeowners and developers can use to start construction right away. This has the potential to really accelerate affordable housing stock and we’ll continue to advocate for these plans wherever we can!
